Submitted rating: 5 out of 5

Was riding Kenda Ibex for ages as they gave great grip on rocks and was getting 20hrs from a rear. Switched over the shinko 525 cheater and so far so good and a bit cheaper too.

Looking forward to trying SYH. Any recommendations on which one to go for as a good all rounder that doesn’t sacrifice too much performance for durability?

Hi Ian, thanks for the feedback!

The Shinko 525 is a great tyre and has a reputation for good wear.

The SYH range is very sticky and wears reasonably well for such a soft compound. The SYH-245 and SYH-250 perform quite similarly overall, despite their different knob patterns. In our testing, the SYH-250 clears loose surface material really well, so if we’re heading into a dry summer, that would be my pick to try.

Both offer excellent performance and are among the best-value tyres we sell. Either would be a good introduction to the SYH range, and I’d love to hear how you find whichever one you choose.

It’s good to see you trying different brands of gummies, too. Everyone finds their favourite, depending on their bike, terrain and riding style.

      Cheers,
      Sean — APW Enduro Tyres

The Director

Every riding crew has a mate like this. We call ours “The Director.” 🎬😂

Footage of a clean climb? Not a chance—camera’s probably off. Get stuck, drop the bike or turn a small obstacle into a full struggle session? Somehow he’s already filming.

The Director is always lurking in the background, camera ready. Our successes rarely make the cut, but every awkward moment gets the attention it deserves.

We love watching ourselves struggle almost as much as he loves capturing it. Cheers, Director—keeping us humble, one clip at a time. 🤣🤘

Jilliby: the climb that beat me the first time

Tyre setup: SYH-245 rear with TUbliss at 5 psi; Shinko 216MX Cheater Fatty front with an ultra heavy-duty tube at 15 psi.

The final climb attempt at Jilliby, NSW.

By the final climb of a ride at Jilliby, NSW, I was completely dusted. I gave it a go, but I had nothing left. The attempt ended with the bike upside down.

A couple of weeks later, we came back and got up the same climb effortlessly.

My mate takes the footage, but he reckons the successful climbs are boring and the fails are funny. So this is the video I’ve got! Sometimes you make it, and sometimes you come back for another crack.
