Product information

Product details & terrain advice

The Shinko 505 Cheater is a soft, sticky hybrid rear tyre developed for hard enduro, extreme single-track and technical trail riding across intermediate and hard terrain.

Soft hybrid Cheater compound

Trials-style sticky rubber is combined with a knobby off-road carcass, helping the tyre conform to rocks, roots and uneven ground while retaining the braking and drive characteristics of an enduro tyre.

Hard-terrain tread pattern

The 505 uses a closely supported knobby pattern designed to maintain a strong contact patch on firm, rocky and technical surfaces. It offers a more hard-terrain-focused alternative to the more open 525 Cheater.

Technical-terrain confidence

The compliant compound and stable tread blocks deliver predictable traction through steep climbs, rock gardens, roots and low-speed technical sections.

  • Soft, sticky hybrid rubber compound
  • Hard and intermediate terrain tread pattern
  • Strong braking and forward drive
  • Four-ply, tube-type rear construction
  • Designed for hard enduro and extreme single-track
  • Available in 110/100-18 and 120/100-18

Off-road use only.

APW’s recommendation for four-stroke enduro bikes

Four-stroke and two-stroke bikes deliver power differently, which can affect how gummy tyres wear. Riding style, terrain and tyre setup also play a part.

Based on our testing with friends who ride four-stroke enduro bikes, the IRC VE-33S Gekkota, Shinko 505 Cheater and Shinko 525 Cheater are our preferred options for 4T riders. These offer a hybrid approach to sticky grip and durability. We’ve had good results with them on four-strokes, including better wear than the softer gummy options we’ve tried.

Read our hard enduro gummy tyre buying guide for more help choosing a tyre for your riding conditions.

Getting the most from a gummy tyre

Gummy tyres tend to find their best grip with controlled wheelspin, giving the carcass and soft knobs a chance to conform around rocks and roots. Sustained wheelspin on abrasive terrain can trade some of that soft tread for drive.

Every rider has their own approach, and sometimes a burst of wheelspin is exactly what the situation calls for. It’s a balance between finding traction, keeping momentum and tyre wear.

Choose an option above for current price and availability. Check bike fitment, rim width and clearance before changing tyre size. Road-use approval is specific to the selected tyre; check its description, sidewall markings and manufacturer information.

Mousse, TUbliss or tube: how do I choose?

For a full mousse, match the exact tyre brand, model, size and rim width using the NitroMousse fitment chart. Platinum Standard gives a 10–12 psi feel; Plushie gives a softer 6–8 psi feel for slower technical riding. These figures describe feel, not inflation pressure.

TUbliss uses a high-pressure inner bladder and a separately adjustable tyre chamber. Confirm the correct rim dimensions and follow the system’s installation and maintenance instructions. A tube-type tyre marking alone does not confirm a particular insert or system will fit.

See our mousse vs TUbliss comparison, shop setups and spares, or ask us to check your combination.
